What are Exercise Physiologists?
An Exercise Physiologist is an allied health professional who specialises in delivering specific exercise programming for the management and prevention of chronic diseases. All Exercise Physiologists are educated at a tertiary level, usually in a medical faculty, and complete over 500 hours of training in various fields of rehabilitation including; musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and neuromuscular rehabilitation.

Type 2 Diabetes and Exercise
Type 2 Diabetes is one of the most under diagnosed diseases in Australia today. Type 2 Diabetes develops when blood sugar can no longer be effectively controlled by the hormone ‘insulin’, therefore blood sugar rises which leads to increased frequency of urinating, thirst and general fatigue. Over the long term, untreated Type 2 Diabetes can lead to heart disease, kidney disease, blindness, stroke, cancer and even amputation. The good news is that Type 2 Diabetes is preventable and if it’s diagnosed early it can be even reversed with the help of exercise! Many studies have shown that exercise can help normalise blood sugar levels. How can exercise help? Well it’s all about your muscles. Skeletal muscle is involved in over 80% of sugar metabolism in the body, so if you’re not using your muscles then you are less likely to control you blood sugar levels. The best type of exercise to control your Type 2 Diabetes is resistance or strength training 2-3 times per week. Along with daily walks and a healthy diet, resistance exercise is the key to managing your Type 2 Diabetes. What Exercise Services do we offer?
At Back to health Clinic we offer a wide range of exercise management services to help you get back to health. These include:
- Group classes: Are a great and affordable way to help you stick to your exercise program. We run daily group exercise classes that are all supervised by our Exercise Physiologist. All classes run for 1 hour and there are no more then 6 people in each class which means you can exercise in a safe and comfortable environment.
- One-on-one Sessions: Are available in both 30 min and 60 min sessions where you will get expert supervision and guidance on your exercise sessions
- Treatment & Exercise Sessions: Unique to Back to Health Clinic are sessions where you can receive treatment for a problem area in the form of massage, joint mobilizations and muscle releases during your exercise sessions! These sessions are perfect for people who want to exercise but can’t due to pain!
- Exercise Reviews: Many people already have access to gym equipment and all they need is someone to guide them through their program. Periodic review sessions enables you to meet with our Exercise Physiologist and discuss your exercise program in detail as well as progressing your existing exercise program.
Exercise Physiology, Medicare and Private Health Rebates
Exercise Physiology services are recognised by most private health funds in Australia and at Back to Health Clinic you are able to claim rebates on the spot with Hicaps.
All Medicare plans that are given by your GP are ‘bulk-billed’ at our clinic which means you don’t need to pay for Medicare services.
